“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit . . .” (Hebrews 4:12). The Word is Active!
Beneath its spell the blind see, the deaf hear, the paralyzed walk, the dead stir in their graves and come forth. Put a seed into the fissure of a rock and it will split it into. When the Word of God enters the heart it breaks strong men, compelling them to give up sin. The Word of God is His winnowing fan which separates the chaff from the grain.
Who can tell where the soul of man and his spirit is divided? But the Word is so sharp that it can divide between these mysterious parts of our humanity which none of us can see. Like the high priest dividing the sacrificial animal on the altar, the Word of God cuts in our inner parts. The old man must be slain for the seed of eternal life to grow. Thank God for the Word!
