Heaven is such a marvelous place, Jesus was anxious to finish His earthly work and return there. He prayed, “Father, restore unto me the glory that I had with you before the world was” (John 17). Oh, that we could get that homesick for heaven and for that happy land. Why do we waste our time trying to make this earthly life so great that we are satisfied to live here? It is not heaven and never can be. Your heart shall never know fulfillment until you step inside those gates. All of Christ’s earthly labor was to get us ready to go there. The hearts of the disciples were filled with sorrow when, in John 13, He explained how He must die. That’s why He told them in John 14, “Let not your hearts be troubled . . . I go to prepare you a place.” If your life has become a burden, if your body is racked with pain, if you have recently stood at the grave of a dear one, if you still feel the pain of that loved one who was taken in death, there is a real place that Jesus has prepared for those who believe on Him.
