The Shepherd Provides Rest – 11.7.2021

Psalm 23:2, “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures . . . ” Let us think about the rest that is inferred here. He has led his sheep early to feed in lush pasturage. Now, the hot sun of the eastern sky, beams down upon them like a furnace. The shepherd seeks the coolest place he can find for his sheep to rest. His thoughts are always on his sheep. Having fed all morning, he finds the best place to lie down and rest. Of course, there were always some who would keep feeding, even in the scorching sun. So he ‘makes’ them lie down. God always planned a rest for His people. He finished His work of creation in six days and rested on the seventh, which He made it a Sabbath unto them, a day of rest. God knew the day when His chosen would find special rest in Christ. Then He saw the eternal rest His people would inherit. Even now, while we are living in this crazy mixed up world, He calls us to come aside and rest. Worship is a rest for the Christian. Man is naturally restless so sometimes He makes us lie down. Physically, emotionally, and spiritually, we need rest. To refuse it may lead to a breakdown. We most need spiritual rest. This will give us tri-fold healing. Remember, God knows best what we need, listen to Him.
