James said, “But wilt thou know, O vain man, faith without works is dead.” (James 2:20). He could have said, “Faith without obedience is dead,” and been just as faithful to the Word. For what are the works we are to do but obedience to His command? Of course, these works do not earn salvation, they accompany salvation. Our salvation is by grace, and so are all the other blessings God gives. Some today, however, have turned the grace of God into lasciviousness, supposing that, since we are under grace, we can be indifferent to the laws of God. They claim that grace is their free pass to heaven, no matter if they continue in their sins. Obedience to God is the only evidence you have that God has wrought a regenerating work in your heart. Paul said, “The grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men; Teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lust, we should live soberly, righteously and godly in this present world…..” (Titus 2:11, 12). I ask you, if you don’t hate sin and knowing how much God gave to destroy Satan’s work, if you are not resisting it everyday, how do you know you are saved? Remember, “Faith without obedience is dead.” Eternity is waiting, be sure!
